Active in strongman from 1996 to 2006, Svend Karlsen won the World’s Strongest Man title in 2001 after finishing 2nd in 2000 and 3rd in 1999. He deadlifted 400 kg at the 2002 Arnold Strongman Classic and set a world record in the Viking Press with 197.5 kg at the 2001 WSM. Karlsen also claimed victory at Europe’s Strongest Man in 2001. He was particularly known for his strength in the atlas stones and deadlift events.
